Break ups. You bury yourself under the blanket, the tub of ice cream is yours, you stalk your ex online and you sulk, sulk and sulk. Break ups are hard, messy and annoying. Most people would wallow themselves in self pity but do you know what my friend Amal did? She wrote a book.

Yes, a book… and MPH Bookstore published it! Talk about breakup benefits, huh.

Okay, so the book is not all relationships and breaking up, it is also about discovering yourself and being honest with where you stand and want in life, but it all started because of a boy.

Amal was my roommate back in Perth and she had a knack for making the best meat loaf. I had no idea she could write so well even though she told me she blogged but I didn’t start following her seriously until a few years back. Not long ago The New Straits Times approached her for a column and now you can read it every week in NST! Gah, this girl is going places and I cannot be more happy for her.

She is the Carrie Bradshaw of our generation!

The thing about Amal is that she has her own way of telling stories. Whenever I read her articles I can always hear her narrating it in her voice and it makes it 1000 times fun-ner to read.

This weekend, I dragged my family for her book launch and it was so much fun! My heart was bursting with so much happiness seeing her reading excerpt from her book and signing autographs for her fans. It must have been unreal for her seeing all her loved ones supporting her with her published hard work.

Amal, I know you’re reading this. I don’t have to tell you again how proud we are of you. I hope you’ll keep writing, keep inspiring and keep being yourself.

And don’t worry about finding Mr Big, he’s out there somewhere probably stuck with the wrong chick for now.
