Bali

Deciding where to go for your honeymoon could be quite a head scratcher – especially when you’re on a budget. Bali is a popular place for honeymooners – flight ticket is cheap, accommodation is reasonable, communication will be easy since we understand the language and Indonesia isn’t far from home. Joe and I decided on Bali because as much as we would like to go on a Euro trip, we couldn’t afford it just yet. So Bali it is!

We took an uber to the airport, had a fulfilling and nutritious breakfast (Sausage Egg McMuffin & Hash browns from McDonalds) and went into the wrong plane. Yup! Wrong plane. We almost went to Cebu, Philippines guys, no joke. I was so confident that the lady was seating on my seat so I was like ‘yeah bring it on woman I’m ready to show you off my ticket’. Little did I know we didn’t hear the announcement that they changed the gate. So Joe and I sprinted to the other side of the building because of course it was our luck to get the gate that was furthest away. The crew waited for us, held the door and everything and we finally made our grand entrance.

Still out of breath no thanks to the cardio workout earlier, we were both so happy that we were finally on the way to Bali!

So excited meh

We stayed in 2 beautiful villas in Seminyak. The pool was so inviting, the people were so nice and the weather was very humid. It didn’t take long for Joe and I to end up in the pool. Totally worth it.

Thank you MEETSURI & CO for these cool shirts!

There were so many hipster cafes, posh restaurants and boutique shops in Seminyak I felt like I was in an exotic Beverly Hills at one point.

My favorite part about Bali was discovering that my husband could ride a motorcycle really well! And we saved  lot of money from hiring a motorcycle instead of a car.

Motorcycle: RM7, Car with Driver: RM100

PER DAY

Motorcycle wins, thank you le husband! I obviously couldn’t contain my excitement very well.

Silly idea of sending this picture to my family. Got a lecture from my parents for not wearing helmet.

We learned our lesson and sent this back to them

Things to do at Bali

Monkey Forest at Ubud

The Forest is huge and you can practically spend the entire day there. Most of the monkeys are pretty tame given that they are used to human contact. Tried to be all friendly to the monkeys but after one of them jumped on me and Joe, leaving them alone was probably the best idea. So, we just chilled with them for a while.

Shopping

Shopping in Ubud was so nice! There’s a market where locals sell souvenirs and I loved walking around observing the people and things. What I like most about Ubud is that it’s surrounded by beautiful temples. Another place to shop would be Seminyak but that’s really if you’re looking for boutiques and fashion chains. We were told that Denpasar is the best place to go for souvenir shopping because it’s cheaper compared to other places.

Eat!

Food in Bali is actually very expensive so remember to spare some extra changes if you plan to visit Bali. Joe and I indulged on Duck Rice, also known as Bebek. It was so delicious and crispy. We asked the lady where the restaurant was and she said ‘oh it’s only 5 minutes’ walk from here’ . It was more than 30 minutes okay but I was so determined to go there because I’ve been there with my girlfriends 3 years ago.

Horseriding

Joe loves horses and he’s been dreaming to ride for the longest time, so we decided to go to Canggu. The riding place was well maintained, staff was so friendly and the horses looked happy. They even served us hot pisang goreng and soda after we were done. 2 hours of horse riding in the paddy fields, the peaceful suburbs of Canggu and the beach. Ahhh, the bliss and serenity. Wasn’t so blissful though when I could barely walk after we got off the horse.

Sunset at Tanah Lot

One of the popular tourist spots in Bali. It took us an hour to ride the motorcycle from our villa. Got there, no sunset. Cloudy. But we did climb a small cliff enjoyed the view.

Luwak Coffee and Uluwatu Temple

On the way to Uluwatu, we stopped by a Luwak Coffee Farm. Luwak Coffee is the most expensive coffee in the world, sometimes fetching up to hundreds of dollars for a cup. It’s really expensive because the coffee beans are digested by chivet cats (Luwak – Indonesian cat). If you want to know about luwak coffee, read about it here.

Now you know how the coffee beans are collected and processed, please don’t get turned off about it. It’s actually pretty delicious and the chivet cats are so cute! I had this fantasy of playing and petting them in the farm but they were too busy doing this.

Uluwatu is one of most beautiful places I have ever been to. Ulu means ‘Lands End’, Watu means ‘Rock’. The view is spectacular and even though I have been there before I was really happy and grateful and that I got to share the experience of appreciating this place with my new husband. I could tell Joe was pretty shocked with the view, because he was a bit underwhelmed with the Tanah Lot trip (no thanks to the clouds). So I was glad he got to see this part of Bali. We watched the Kecak Dance (Balinese drama and fire dance), while overlooking the sunset it was really cultural and entertaining.

Joe surprised me with a romantic dinner by the beach. It was our last night in Bali before going back to reality.

Bye Bali!

All in all, Bali was wonderful. Anywhere is wonderful if you have good company. And I had the best company for this trip.

To many more adventures with you, Bebo.
