Rauf had his Aqiqah a few weeks ago and we finally got the pictures and I’m so happy!
My sister came home to meet Rauf for the first time and of course we had to have the aqiqah while she was around. The event went well Alhamdulillah and many of our family and friends attended.

For those may not know what an Aqiqah is, the Aqiqah is performed when a Muslim couple is bestowed with a newborn. It is to introduce the baby formally to the world in the presence of family members, neighbors, and friends. Typically, for most aqiqahs, the couple would announce the name given to the newborn, sacrifice an animal on the occasion of a child’s birth, cut the baby’s hair and perform the Tahnik, which is touching the lips of a newborn baby with honey, sweet juice or pressed dates.

As well as it went, it was also chaotic. Raul was the star of the day so everybody wanted a piece of him. He’s still too young to recognise anyone so he wasn’t making too much noise while he was being passed around like a football, but throughout the event, he laughed, cried, giggled, screamed and screamed even louder when he was too tired. I had to take him out a few times to calm him down, fed him in between and had to change his outfit when he threw up.

All in all, my family and I were so grateful that many of our family and friends turned up. I got a bit teary when I saw my girlfriends with Rauf because these were the girls I grew up with. Now they’re aunts to my son and he’s so lucky!

I thank God everyday for Rauf, this boy really toughened me up since he was born and I never knew what unconditional love was before I met him.

Rauf, we love you sayang. One day when you go through the pictures or read this I hope you know how loved you are and more importantly, how blessed you are. I know you’re probably expecting me to list down the things I hope you will achieve one day but that’s not important. The only thing I hope and wish for you is that in any event of happiness and sadness that will occur in your life, I hope you will always choose kindness. Being good always wins, Rauf. Maybe not in the way you may hope it would, but trust me, it does.
