When I was 3 years old, my aunt married my Uncle Din. I can only remember a few things back then: the wedding, me running in my nappies during the rehearsal at home and my cousin Tasha.

Tasha is my Uncle Din’s niece, my very first friend. I can’t remember anything that happened before meeting her. My sweetest childhood memories is with this girl, and last week, while visiting Rauf and I, she proposed.
She proposed that I would be one of her bridesmaids with a note attached to a bottle of glue. Yup, glue.
Hold up, rewind. Let me explain, it’s not just a bottle of glue, I swear.
When we were in Standard 2, we were so thrilled that we were put in the same class room: 2 Merah. We were part of Mr Krishnan’s army, we thought it was so cool that we got to hang out with each other every single day. One day, we realised we wanted to be inseparable (despite living 5 minutes away from one another). So, Tasha took out her glue out from her pencil case, took the edge of our pinafores and glued them together. It was at that moment, two 8 year olds decided that they would grow up together and always be there for each other no matter what.
Of course the glue came off, our pinafores never stuck and our moms gave us a lecture for dirtying our school uniforms, but you totally get the symbolism.
Gluing our pinafores together was our promise, and to this day, our promise is still in tact and our bond is unbreakable and now I get to be part of the happiest day of her life.
See, told you it wasn’t just a glue. Got sweet story behind it, okay!
So, my first ever friend is marrying the man of her dreams, the man I know she longingly deserves. I can’t wait till October for the big day.
The two pinafore girls are all grown up, so it seems, but we will never grow out of the girls from Mr Krishnan’s classroom who made a vow over a bottle of glue.
I love you Tasha, always have always will, promise.
