Blessing in Disguise

One of my best friends called me in tears while she was away in Germany for a work trip. Apparently the people she came with decided to leave her alone and proceeded with their own plans.

Who wouldn’t feel ditched in that situation, I mean, you went somewhere far from home, together, for the same purpose and you’re suppose to look out for one another. I was furious, but perhaps this was blessing in disguise.

So I told her to go ahead anyway and make her own trip. Maybe this was her opportunity to see the world on her own. She was scared, duh, who wouldn’t be. Driving from one country to another, alone, with unfamiliar roads, language, culture and people. But she did it anyway.

And boy, she had the time of her life! She called me when she got in the train to Switzerland and she was ecstatic!

She said she felt so liberated and grateful that this opportunity was hers. It made me think of something that I read somewhere before: sometimes letting  go would do you more good than harm. We’re so afraid of change and terrified to be alone, but that one little step could lead you to the biggest treasure.

As for my friend, she had one more country to cross off her travel bucket list. She became less scared and had more faith in herself.

And, she had the best view in the world while she had her lunch. She won. Hands down.
